Informed.
Down to earth, smart, and funny, Janet Zander is well known in our state for her ability to share, teach, and talk in a language that everyone can understand. At the summit, she’ll help us understand new laws and policies that impact Wisconsin seniors–what's being proposed, what it means for our lives, and how we can respond together. We’ll spend some time digging in and discussing options we have to take action and use our collective voices to be heard.
Janet is the Advocacy and Public Policy Coordinator of the Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources (GWAAR). We’re honored and excited to have her with us.
Inspired.
When it comes to aging and aging well, many of us have the kind of wisdom that can only come with experience. We hope you’ll bring your thoughts along with you as we have good, honest, community conversations about aging with dignity, purpose, and connection. What does it mean to grow older in Wisconsin? How do we stay engaged and empowered in this season of our lives?
Involved.
Our summit will also include some deep listening activities through which we will share in small groups the issues that matter to us the most. Maybe it’s food and hunger. Maybe housing. Or loneliness. Or transportation. Or fear that our grandkids won’t know the world outside of a screen. These conversations will help us understand where to focus our collective power—while also giving us all a chance to connect with neighbors who care about so many of the same things.
Groundswell Collective brings communities together, building independent people power, so we can fight for and win what we need to make Walworth County and Southern Wisconsin a more hospitable, livable place for our neighbors, for ourselves, and for generations yet to come.
This summit is part of the Senior Empowerment Project—a growing statewide movement of rural and small-town Wisconsin seniors who share a vision of a Wisconsin where:
*Every senior has a home
*Every senior has access to high-quality, affordable, local care
*Seniors are integrated into community life, not isolated
*Care workers are treated with dignity and paid fairly
There are over one million seniors in Wisconsin. And these kinds of conversations are being had all over the state. What is said here will help us shape and work together toward the kind of future and policies we actually want and need for ourselves and our communities.
