About this Event

Join the South Carolina Agricultural Council for an unforgettable Fall 2024 Bus Tour of the Upstate! Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 3rd, and prepare for a day filled with discovery, delicious treats, and delightful sips. Our adventure kicks off at 7:30 am from the South Carolina Farm Bureau Office and concludes at 6 pm, promising a full day of exploration and enjoyment. Contact Jackie Moore, Agritourism Marketing Specialist, South Carolina Department of Agriculture, Office: 803-394-9831 for additional information.

1st Stop: South Carolina Botanical Garden’s Natural Heritage Garden. Step back in time as we embark on a guided tour of the Natural Heritage Garden. This unique experience will transport you to the days when explorers first set foot on South Carolina’s coastal sands, buffalo roamed the Piedmont prairies, and Native Americans skillfully managed the landscape. Learn about the ecological, social, and cultural history of the region, from the art of African American basket weaving to the critical role of fire in land management. Before we leave, we’ll visit the Visitor Center and Gift Shop, where you can learn about the SC Native Plant Certificate, Garden Membership, and Volunteer opportunities.

2nd Stop: Enjoying lunch at Sole on the Green located in Clemon's Madren Center, we’ll visit Happy Cow Creamery, a 3rd generation dairy farm known for its exceptional on-the-farm milk bottling operation. Discover the secrets behind their high-quality, fresh milk, available directly from their own dairy cows. Don’t forget to bring a cooler—this is your chance to stock up on delicious whole milk, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, cultured buttermilk, and a variety of cheeses from their recently expanded retail store, which opened on February 13th of this year.

3rd Stop: Our final destination takes us to City Scape Winery in Pelzer, South Carolina. Unlike many other wineries, City Scape produces and bottles 100% of its wines on-site. During our exclusive behind-the-scenes tour, you’ll explore their new, expanded facility, including a 6,400 sq. ft. underground production area, tasting room, and vineyards. Winemaker and owner Josh Jones will guide us through the winemaking process, from grape growing to bottling. After the tour, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase a glass of wine or a flight to savor as you relax and reflect on the day (wine not included in tour price).

Don’t miss this chance to experience the best of South Carolina’s agricultural heritage. Reserve your spot today for a day of learning, tasting, and toasting in the beautiful Upstate!

The tour will begin at 7:30 am and end at 6:00 pm at the South Carolina Farm Bureau Office (724 Knox Abbott Dr, Cayce, SC 29033). Contact Stephen Slice at 803-360-2845 for additional information.
