What’s the soundtrack to your coming-of-age story? In this karaoke-meets-poetry party, writer and performer Michael V. Smith draws on the music that shaped his youth, blending heartfelt, funny, and tender spoken-word reflections about growing up queer in a small town.
Here’s how it works: audience members volunteer to sing karaoke from one of 19 iconic albums featured in Smith’s book Soundtrack. Each chosen song sparks a poem, pairing memory with music and weaving Smith’s stories with those of the crowd. With sharp improv and gentle humour, Michael turns each performance into a one-of-a-kind exchange of nostalgia, irony, and joy.
Three performances throughout the day and evening: come for one section or stay for all, each promises old songs, new insights, and the chance to see how our lives overlap in music.
