About this Event
Sounds of Memory & Resistance is a multidisciplinary performance experience exploring how music, movement, and storytelling carry memory across generations, borders, and struggles. Through three distinct performances, audiences will journey through stories of migration, cultural resilience, collective joy, and resistance, discovering how sound becomes both archive and action.
The program features:
- Memories of Peru by PEX Dance Company. A moving dance performance where memories of home, the hopes we carry for future generations, and the realities of migration come together in an intimate family story told through movement.
- Songs of Resistance / Música de Protesta, an interactive experience led by percussionist Claudio Ortiz and singer Jessica Moreno. Audience members are invited to participate through percussion and collective singing, transforming the performance into a shared act of resistance, solidarity, and community expression.
- A music-guided monologue tracing the history, influences, and cultural evolution of Cumbia, exploring how the genre became the soundtrack of an entire continent.
Together, these three interdisciplinary experiences reveal how sound guides us through memory, resistance, migration, and the legacies communities leave behind.
