Masters of musical reinvention, Igudesman & Joo delight in pushing beyond the ordinary. Their programme Sound New World, commissioned by the Dvořák Prague Festival, transforms great masterpieces through fresh perspectives and a playful spirit—one firmly rooted in a deep understanding of the original music. With this approach, they will “take on” Dvořák’s iconic New World Symphony, exploring the blend of Czech and American influences that shaped its creation.
The programme also features Surprising Haydn, adding even more wit and unexpected twists to a composition known as the Surprise Symphony. Romanticism is playfully caricatured in Scarbo, the dazzling movement from Ravel’s piano suite Gaspard de la nuit. The concert will also take bold new paths with Johann Strauss, film music legend Hans Zimmer, and Rossini’s fiery overture to William Tell.
This vibrant musical journey also marks two significant milestones: the upcoming anniversary of the founding of the United States, the nation that gave rise to the very idea of the New World, and the birth celebrations of Johann Strauss II and Maurice Ravel.
