About this Event

Sound Capsule for the Revolution 2: Summer Full Moon Singing Circle

Come join us at the House of Annetta for an evening of soulful singing, connection and release under the harvest full moon. This event is a safer space for all voices to be heard, where we come together to be held in the power of collective sound, in communion with our wise, loving and elevated ancestors. No singing experience required, just bring your open heart and willingness to try. See you there!

WHAT IS SOUND CAPSULE FOR THE ANCESTORS

Many of our ancestors used to come together to sing as a way of preserving connection and trust amidst tremendous pains, challenges, conflicts but also as a means of celebration and nurturing growth in the community. The practice of singing in community has been central to people’s mental health in so many contexts and this ancestral medicine still holds tremendous potential for our collective healing today. Reflecting on our connection to ancestors - both blood and movement ancestors - we co-create own our sound medicine in communion with their presence and wisdom. We let ourselves release and rest in the power of collective sound with the aim to support ourselves, our ancestors and descendants to keep getting free. The circle will be recorded and sent to participants after the circle, as an ongoing resource for participants to return to.

Our understanding of this work is rooted in wisdom from:

  • Tibbetan Buddhism as taught by Lama Rod Owens
  • 'Healing Wisdom of Africa' book by Malidoma Patrice Somé
  • 'Ancestral Medicine' book by Daniel Foor

WHAT TO EXPECT

On the day, we will start with a grounding, an ice-breaker and collective singing of ancestral repair songs composed by the facilitator. We will then use our emotions and the live energy of the group to write and create our own collective soundscapes, so we can sing our way through this summer full moon in communion with our wise, loving and elevated ancestors (whether blood or movement ancetsors). Using writing prompts and a guided visualisation, we will open ourselves to their wisdom as well as the wisdom we wish to pass on to our descendants, creating portals for trans-historical healing. Through taking part in singing circles like this one, you can gain confidence and clarity about what is your truest sound, and how to feel into its foundations in your lineage, in your body, heart, breath and spirit.

We will sit together in a circle of no more than 15 people with cushions, tea, writing and ritual supplies provided.

WHO IT'S FOR

'Sound Capsule for the Ancestors' is a community care space for people invested in healing in connection with others and the wider lineage of those who came before. This space will prioritise all those actively holding space for others. All those caring, mobilising and organizing for social change, collective healing and liberation - in particular global majority people and those identifying as queer or trans (the facilitator is a non binary person of colour). No prior singing experience is required ! As long as you enjoy (or at least feel curious) about using your voice and letting it meet other people’s, this is for you. The intention is to remember our collective power to be each other’s medicine in trying times, and explore what that sounds like, and what it feels like to let ourselves be moved and held by that. This singing circle is also relevant for anyone seeking inspiration for their craft - may that be writing, music, or drawing - or anyone in need of some sensory community comfort.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

My name is Lauriem (they/ them) and I am a collective sound healer, award-winning singer-songwriter, performer, vocal expansion guide, and community organiser based in East London. I work for a non-hierarchical climate justice organisation based in Bethnal Green, and I focus on developing my sound healing practice the rest of the time. I have been meditating for 5 years and practicing Tibettan Buddhism for a year now. Initially a singer-songwriter, I discovered during the covid-19 pandemic the expanding potential of my voice as a tool for emotional self-regulation, communing with spirit, clearing somatic blockages and deep healing across realms and timelines. Since then I self-recorded my first EPs to share some of the sound healing I was blessed with through doing this solo work: ‘Sound Capsule for Grieving’ and ‘Sound Capsule for Loving’ (available here). I am now actively working on ‘Sound Capsule for the Revolution’, a series of singing circles where we practice community healing and unlock our potential for sounding the truth and beauty of collective liberation.

ACCESSIBILITY
There is a step up to enter the ground floor of the building, with a ramp access available (singing circle will take place on the ground floor). On that same floor, the garden has a change of level , and there is a step down into the only toilet on site which does not meet accessibility requirements. The floor surfaces throughout the house are uneven due to the age of the building. There are two level changes across the outside garden.

If you access needs you need to inquire about, please get in touch via the emails [email protected] or [email protected] in confidence for support.

Meanwhile, a document with additional accessibility info (including on sound and toilets) can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QA8moSKratKShJejxCov6kriZ_cPmyFqaRN4Q78DH2k/edit

If you know of more accessible venues that could host similar events for free in future, feel free to let me know at [email protected]

NO ONE TURNED AWAY FOR LACK OF FUNDS

Please get in touch with [email protected] if you'd like to attend but can't afford the ticket price. Any money earned from ticket sales will go towards resourcing the venue, and the organizing of future singing circles.
