SOUL IN FLAMES is a feature documentary chronicling the rise and fall of COLD MEAT INDUSTRY – told from the perspectives of both its enigmatic founder and the artists whose musical achievements still, decades later, garner worldwide interest. The label championed the careers of groundbreaking dark ambient, noise, industrial & experimental artists such as Brighter Death Now, Mortiis, MZ412, Aghast, Arcana, In Slaughter Natives, Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, Raison d'être & many more. Cold Meat Industry captured the zeitgeist of cultural rebellion and extreme underground music in the 90s spanning the breadth of cutting edge black metal, noise, dark ambient, and industrial.
In 1987, Roger Karmanik - a veteran musician of the Swedish industrial scene - founded Cold Meat Industry. Over the next decade, the label grew from a bedroom passion project into a world-renowned record company. Whilst CMI grew exponentially, Karmanik's underground mindset and work methods remained largely unchanged. Plagued by setbacks in both his personal and professional life - as well as deteriorating mental health - Roger Karmanik eventually hit a wall. CMI was declared bankrupt in 2011. Then, thirty years after its conception, people from over 40 different countries gathered in Stockholm to celebrate the label's anniversary - and something unexpected ensued. The influence and legacy of this great label is still felt today resonating through black metal, noise, dark ambient, and dungeon synth.
COLD VOID BONUS SHORT FILM
Before the main feature we will screen a short art house documentary about mental illness as seen through the eyes of Niklas Kvarforth of legendary Swedish black metal band Shining. 'Cold Void' is a personal portrayal of the man behind headlines of suicide, drugs and self-destruction. Addiction, bipolar disorder, passion and schizophrenia.
