WHAT'S SORT-A-THON?
Sort-A-Thon is FABSCRAP’s 12-hour fabric sorting marathon event!
We need you - we’re recruiting all our FAB friends to come and help sort fabric. Our goal is to sort 3,000 pounds of textiles in one day! FABSCRAP will provide meals, entertainment, and special activities and events throughout - like a very productive party! :)
HOW DOES IT WORK?
*Register for 2-hour sorting blocks and take home 3 pounds of fabric for each block you complete.
For example, 4 hours of sorting = 6 pounds of gifted fabric!
*Don’t forget to buffer some time in to shop after you've completed your final sorting block and redeem your gift of fabric!
Vouchers will be provided if you prefer to redeem your gifted fabric at a later date.
*2 sorters per table - first come, first serve basis.
To reach our goal and maximize efficiency, each table will have two sorters. We encourage coming with a friend but they will need to register separately!
*Maximum of three, 2-hour blocks per attendee.
WHY?
We need the help of our volunteers to make a dent in our growing pile of material. On average, we collect 7000 pounds of textile waste each week! Sort-A-Thon is also a perfect opportunity for all of our volunteers to meet and connect!

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Timeline of each 2 hour session:
- Welcome & Orientation: Overview of FABSCRAP and training on how to sorts fabric for reuse and recycling (first 10 minutes, don't be late!)
- Sort: Sort through fabric, trim, sample garments, scraps, and more to find reusable and recyclable materials. While removing hardware, stickers, and paper for trash and paper recycling. (1 hour 45 minutes)
- Clean Up: Organize and clear your station for the next batch of volunteers! (5 mins)
***Sorting fabric requires the use of sharp scissors and moderate lifting (20-30 lbs). By registering for a session, you are confirming that you have read, understand, and agree to the volunteer waiver.***

Tips for a successful volunteer session:
- Arrive on time, a few minutes early is okay too.
- Dress comfortably and wear comfortable CLOSED TOE shoes. Most volunteers sort while standing, but we can provide chairs if you prefer to sit.
- Bring a friend - you'll be sharing a table, might as well be with a buddy! They must register separately.
- We play music, but feel free to bring headphones.
- Out of respect for everyone in our community, if you are feeling ill prior to the event, we ask that you cancel your ticket and do not attend.

***7-9PM: Sorting with w/It's Britney B*tch! We'll be playing All Britney Spears to end the day. That's 2 hours of Britney's best, fan favorites, and deep cuts!
DIRECTIONS ARE IMPORTANT!
The FABSCRAP warehouse is located in Building B within the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT), which is accessible by foot, bike/scooter, car, subway, bus, and ferry. Free indoor and outdoor bike parking is available at BAT Building B entrances (58th Street). This entrance is fully accessible. Free, secure on-site parking is available for cars at the Pier 4/NYC Ferry parking lot.

IF YOU CAN NO LONGER ATTEND / NEED TO CANCEL:
We have limited availability and high demand for our volunteer opportunities. Any missing volunteer significantly impacts our operations and takes away the spot from another community member. If you can no longer make it for any reason, kindly cancel your Eventbrite ticket prior to the session through your confirmation email (see below) with the info about what session you are canceling.
How do you cancel your ticket?
Once you receive your confirmation email, please click “Go to My Tickets”. From there, please click cancel your ticket.
