About this Event
Often called the "Godfather of Americana," Eric Ambel is a seminal figure whose influence stretches from the early days of punk to the foundations of modern roots rock. An original member of Joan Jett’s Blackhearts and a veteran of The Del-Lords and Steve Earle’s Dukes, Ambel established his solo credentials with the 1988 classic Roscoe’s Gang. His "raw and loose" guitar style and intuitive songwriting have earned him comparisons to Keith Richards and Neil Young, cementing his reputation as a musician’s musician who defined a genre before it even had a name.
Beyond his work as a performer, Ambel is a prolific producer and the force behind Cowboy Technical Services recording studio. He has shaped the definitive sounds of artists like the Bottle Rockets, Nils Lofgren, and Sarah Borges, while maintaining long-standing creative partnerships with figures such as Jimbo Mathus and Dan Baird. His production philosophy—grounded in an effortless, electric authenticity—has made him the go-to collaborator for artists seeking an honest, uncompromising sound.
Ambel continues to evolve his craft, most recently releasing You Asked For It (2022), a collection born from his "Shut In Series" during the pandemic. Whether he is leading his own band, producing landmark albums, or performing with the Yayhoos, Ambel remains a guiding light in the Americana scene. As his decades-long career proves, while many bands wear his influence on their sleeves, few can replicate the singular, "72 Stones" grit that Ambel brings to everything he touches.
Sophie Gault has always been a little unhinged. A Nashville-based Americana rocker with a midnight voice and an eye and ear for last call rock and roll, she writes songs that swagger, stumble, wink, and bleed. With her third full-length album, Unhinged, Gault triples down on the risk-taking drive that has revved her from dive bars to the big tents, crafting a record that feels atonce deeply personal and side-eye defiant.
Unhinged is a dare. A fast, reckless, one-eye-open ride through cow-punk Buck Owens, punked-up Robert Johnson, shipwreck coins, blackjack tables, and backroom heartbreak. It's the soundof someone doubling down on 17 when everyone screams "No!"—and winning. It's the smell of whiskey and Monte Cristos at 2 AM and the taste of cheap red wine mixed with heat lightning.
Born with a restless streak that fuels musical infernos, Gault found her footing in Nashville'screative underground, where biting songwriting and an electric live presence made her a name to circle on the Americana scene—praised in equal measure for razor-edged honesty and a sly sense of humor. She raises a glass to the chaos of life, leans into the messiness of desire and reinvention, and proves that the most outlaw thing you can do is trust your gut and live with the outcome.
