Sonnet of Samsara, a transdisciplinary performance, responds to the pressing challenges of environmental crises, climate emergencies, conflicts, and societal divisions. Drawing from myths, memories, lived experiences, and imagination, the work reflects on the human journey—its cycles of discovery, transformation, and renewal.
As part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, Bengaluru, its latest production, Sonnet of Samsara, will be presented in Chennai with the support of the British Council, InKo Centre, Dakshina Chitra, and the Asian College of Journalism.
This immersive, transdisciplinary performance will come alive through two unique and distinct presentations which will be followed by a lecture presentation on Attakkalari’s works and creative processes.
- 03 October 2025 | 4:30 PM – A site-specific promenade performance at DakshinaChitra, designed to animate the venue’s stunning architecture and craft heritage.
- 04 October 2025 | 7:00 PM – A formal stage performance at the prestigious Music Academy, Chennai.
- 06 October 2025 | 5:30 PM – A lecture presentation at the Asian College of Journalism, offering deeper insight into Attakkalari’s works and creative processes.
Commissioned by the Serendipity Arts Festival and produced by Attakkalari in collaboration with Kinetika Design Studio, London, with support from the British Council, this powerful new production explores Samsara as an allegory for the compulsions of worldly pursuits, the karmic cycles of existence, and the themes of wandering and transmigration. The performance intertwines global themes and dynamically adapts to the unique characteristics and histories of landscapes or sites, engaging with the experiences, memories, myths, and aspirations of the communities that inhabit them
