First Edition of Songwriters-In-The-Round at The Yardbird Suite!Blending soul, folk, blues, and indie-Americana, the artists take turns sharing songs and the stories behind them, revealing the craft and heart of their music. Expect raw performances, spontaneous collaboration, and a rare glimpse into the songwriting process.
Kimberley MacGregor lovingly crafts and passionately performs songs that will move your heart, change your mind and stomp your feet. Weaving seamlessly between blues, folk and rock, her common threads are strength, vulnerability and badassery, always sizzling with soul.
“As in the past, MacGregor’s voice takes the spotlight. With remarkable ease and fluidity she shapeshifts her instrument to fit the songs, from gritty and raw lo-fi tracks – think Black Keys- to modern soul, blues stompers, and folk tinged rock. A solid branch off the Lucinda Williams, Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge or Patty Griffin family tree.” – Kathy Valentine (Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, The Go-Go’s) — Quench Magazine – Fall 2021
Lucas Chaisson is an acclaimed songwriter, guitarist, and producer. Influenced by Guy Clark and others, his soulful, raw style draws listeners in. He began performing young, releasing two early albums, then moved to Edmonton in 2013 and issued two more well-received records. Telling Time (2015) was produced by Colin Linden in Nashville; Most True Thing (2020) was self-driven with Edmonton’s The Audio Department, featuring notable guests. He also collaborates with Altameda and Lucette, and has produced for Swear By The Moon. With a collection of new songs ready for the studio, he’s preparing to record his fifth album.
Effusive and thoughtful, without pretense yet still above board, Billie Zizi carves a distinct path marked by sonic abandon and a wild spirit. Now on her third studio album [Levitate, Oct 2024], she continues to prove herself as an exciting emergent voice in contemporary music. The album dances gently through illusions of kaleidoscopic colour with Zizi’s masterful vocal prowess in full bloom. Fans of musical alchemists akin to Khrunangbin or Glass Animals can expect melodic charms rife throughout the ten track run time. Listeners are treated to decorative and unpredictable cadences, poetic prowess and tasty mid-tempo rockers, creating an airy, indie-Americana atmosphere that feels ethereal and whimsical.
