Peter Siegel, founding member of The Gaslight Tinkers and Shawn Magee host local seasoned/touring songwriter acts a Sunday every month at the new Marigold in Brattleboro. On February 8th they will be joined by The Early Risers (Ashley Storrow and Putnam Smith). It's an informal round robin with collaborations, original stories and melodies. The Early Risers are a folk duo made up of Ashley Storrow and Putnam Smith. Both rootsy and lyrical, their original songs feature close vocal harmonies and arrangements on a wide array of instruments: banjo, guitar, mandolin, piano, and shruti box. After pursuing separate solo singer/songwriter careers, they joined forces in 2015 and have since toured across the country, from Maine to Texas to California to Vancouver, BC. Their album “Making Life Sweet” went to #1 on the folk DJ charts in Nov, 2019. They have played notable venues such as Club Passim, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, and the High Plains Public Radio concert series. Ashley and Putnam put on a unique and remarkable show that lingers in the heart, mind, and imagination, long after the last round of applause.
Shawn Magee is a masterful lyricist with deep musical roots. He was known as a part of the Barbary Ghosts, a well known sea chantey singing band from the west coast. Here in Brattleboro, Shawn has been a prolific songwriter, reflecting on our times. Shawn will be joined by two other local songwriters TBD.
Peter Siegel (www.petersiegel.com , www.thegaslighttinkers.com) cut his teeth working with folks like Pete Seeger, Jay Unger and Molly Mason, Judy Collins, Dar Williams, Utah Phillips, Noel Paul Stookey of Peter Paul and Mary, and was a bandmate of bluegrass powerhouse Michael Daves in the 90's "New Old Time" band Underbelly which the Berkshire Eagle called "a supergroup of New England talent". He contributed and recorded on the Grammy award winning Pete Seeger album "Tomorrow's Children". His other credits include publication in Sing Out! magazine and the fiddle tune compilation, The Portland Collection, as well as appearances on the nationally syndicated Etown.
The event is free though donations will be welcome.
