We're back to celebrate the empowering life of Mama Joy! Join the Brooklyn Abolitionist movement, with beats by BlackEmpress368.
About this Event

On Sunday July 28, we will gather at the Lefferts Historic House to celebrate the life of Mama Joy. We are creating a refuge, and our house is built with the sweet sounds curated by her daughter Shawné Lee a.k.a. BlackEmpress368.

New York City gleefully demolishes its heritage. How will it stop? The destruction of Abolitionist history stops with us. We have been working for decades to honor the real heroes and sheroes of New York's story. We sustain ourselves with joy, dance, glamour and determination.

Power concedes nothing without a party. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the dance moves of those whom they try to oppress. These were the words, more or less, of Frederick Douglass, one of the people who made Downtown Brooklyn important. He often walked down Duffield Street, and because of Mama Joy, we renamed it Abolitionist Place.

Charles Barron said “The present day Harriet Tubman is Joy.” It’s still true, so join us as we make her voice a little louder and her star shine a little brighter through your spirit.
