About this Event
Songs In The Round returns to Crown & Press on May 21st—an intimate, Bluebird-inspired evening where three artists trade original songs and stories. The audience sits close on all sides, watching the musical conversation unfold in real time and becoming part of the exchange through reactions, laughs, and the odd gut-punch.
This month features:
Frank Fiction (Elias Dummer) — Alt-Americana / Hamilton
The regular host of Songs In The Round, Frank Fiction is the new project from Juno Award–winning songwriter Elias Dummer (frontman of The City Harmonic). Performing unreleased alt-folk songs and a few sideways covers, he draws from two decades of quietly crafted material.
His writing leans into vulnerability and a crooked smile, echoing Jason Isbell, Rufus Wainwright, Andy Shauf, and John Prine. With 100M+ streams and multiple Billboard-charting singles behind him, this project steps into something looser, grounded, and deeply human.
Jon Harvey (The Wild High and, formerly, Monster Truck) — Roots Rock - Hamilton
Jon Harvey co-founded Monster Truck, the Hamilton rock band that won the 2013 Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year and spent over a decade touring internationally, sharing the stage with Nickelback, Billy Talent, Alice in Chains (and many more), as well as headlining festivals. In 2024 he left to start The Wild High, a country-rock band drawing on Leon Russell, The Sheepdogs, and southern rock. He's used to playing loud rooms but hearing him trade songs acoustically at a round is a different animal entirely. He and Frank played shows together as part of separate Hamilton punk bands in the 90s, crossed paths again at the Junos in 2013— the same year Frank won his Juno—and are now sharing the stage for the first time since.
Nick Zubeck — Folk/ Art-Rock - Guelph
Nick Zubeck is a songwriter and guitarist who has released six solo albums and played sideman for Sun Kil Moon, Great Lake Swimmers, Donovan Woods, and Sandro Perri, among others. He's been on stages from Pitchfork Fest to London's Royal Festival Hall, and runs a recording studio in Guelph. His writing moves between folk, jazz, ambient, and art rock — genre-resistant but always song-first. Joining him is Liv Cazzola, a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter known as one half of Tragedy Ann, nominated for two Ontario Folk Music Awards in 2025. She plays accordion, singing saw, and guitar, making this pairing feel like a musical conversation already well underway.
What is Songs In The Round?
Born from Frank’s decade in Nashville and the ethos of the Bluebird Café, Songs In The Round is a stripped-back concert where three artists share the stage at once—taking turns sharing original songs (or songs they wish they'd written!), responding to each other, and letting their songs breathe.
These nights tend to sell out. If you want a seat in the room, don’t wait.
