Journeys shape who we are. Whether across mountains and oceans or through seasons of change, the paths we travel, both literal and emotional, have long inspired powerful music. In our spring program, Songs for the Journey, the Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus explores music that reflects adventure, discovery, and the enduring pull of home.Conducted by Brittney May, the chorus is joined by Dr. Owen Lee and the Diablo Valley Philharmonic Orchestra for a program exploring the human journey of life. Works evoke the excitement of travel and adventure, while others reflect moments of quiet transformation, or the comfort of returning to a place or feeling of belonging.
At the center of the program is From the Bavarian Highlands, a delightful choral cycle by Edward Elgar with texts by his wife Alice Elgar. Inspired by the couple’s holidays in the Bavarian Alps in the 1890s, the work captures scenes from their travels including lively village dances, peaceful mountain chapels, alpine hunts, and evenings spent in warm company. Alice's poetry and Edward's colorful music together create a musical travel diary that celebrates the joy of exploration and the memories gathered along the way.
Songs for the Journey invites us to reflect on the paths we walk, the companions who share them, and the places that call us home. Join us on Saturday, April 18th at 7:00pm or Sunday, April 19th at 2:00pm at North Tahoe High School.
