SONGDOG
Songdog’s current lineup is songwriter, guitarist and singer Lyndon Morgans, together with fellow Songdog founder Karl ‘Pod’ Woodward (who provides the distinctive keyboard sound that weaves through the last album and designed the cover art) plus new violinist Bethan Frieze.
The most recent album, Of Gods And Men, came out under Lyndon’s own name in October 2022. Previous albums as ‘Songdog’ include 2020’s ‘A Happy Ending, ‘Joy Street’, ‘Last Orders at Harry’s Bar’, ‘A Life Eroding’, ‘A Wretched Sinner’s Song’, ‘The Time Of Summer Lightning’, ‘Haiku’ and ‘The Way Of The World’ and were released to great reviews from the likes of Uncut, Mojo, The Mirror, Maverick, RnR and Americana UK amongst others. Lyndon’s tracks have been featured on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6Music plus other regional and international shows, he has recorded a session for Tom Robinson’s show and had his music praised by the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Robert Wyatt. A new Songdog album will be arriving in Spring 2025.
What they’ve said about Songdog's music:
“Lo-fi and alluring, like a heady mix of Eels and Lambchop. A fully qualified peer of such droll, self- deprecating Americans as Kurt Wagner, Stephin Merritt and Mark Everett.” UNCUT (Andrew Mueller)
“Soaring, Mellotron-inflected arrangements enhance Morgans’ acutely observed lyrics.” MOJO (John Aizlewood)
“Morgans’ songs create stark word snapshots and capture moments in a life of music, love, mistake, and regret. You only write these songs if you paid attention while living.” AMERICANA UK (Michael Macy)
“If he were a Wainwright, he’d be Loudon III, not Rufus ….I’d give a body part to write poetry like this.” RnR (Andrew Darlington)
“He has a brilliant way of investing despair and dysfunction with romance. Stellar stuff indeed.” FATEA (Mike Davies)
“Bejewelled lyrics of wit, woe & wonder” MIRROR (Gavin Martin)
“Terrific stuff!” Robert Wyatt
“Intense & sensual collection of baroque, last chance lives…supremely evocative imagery that lesser poets can only aspire to” MAVERICK (Jeremy Searle)
