For our next exhibition slam, we are trying something different! We’ve seen it done in other places and we also tried it out at Poet Fest 2 years ago and it was SOOOOO MUCH FUN!
Join us April 2nd for the Song Lyric Poetry Slam! Doors open at 6:30, slam starts at 7:30, $10 to attend, hosted by Steph Love. Only at The Venue on 35th St!
What is a Song Lyric Poetry Slam, you ask? This slam is for the music lovers who might not be poets, but still wanna try their hand at competition! Each competitor will recite songs as if they’re poems! They cannot sing, rap or have any sort of melody in the poem, it has to be said like poetry! (This is harder than it looks, folks lol)
We welcome ANYONE to sign up and join us for a night of fun, where we pick our favorite songs and recite them like we would our own poems!
The rules:
3 rounds
3-5 judges and scoring will be cumulative.
No time limit
Costumes/props are allowed!
These have to be actual songs. We aren’t going to know every single song, but to impress the judges, you may want to select songs that are well known!
Some tips!
Give us a performance! Even if you are reading! If there was ever a time to impress 3-5 randomly picked judges? This is that time!
Have some props! Maybe even show up in your favorite performance outfit! Or “boutfit” as we like to say. 💅🏻
Most importantly, YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A POET TO ENTER THIS COMPETITION!!!!! But! You gotta say the songs like poems!
