35th Annual Music Under the Stars | Fridays: Salsa y MásFounded in 1993, Son Como Son bills themselves as Salsa Cuban Style and they are unquestionably one of Albuquerque’s longest-standing and most popular salsa ensembles. Playing regularly to packed audiences comprising highly animated and dedicated salseros, they are a staple at the Under the Stars Series (opening and closing the Friday night Salsa y Mas series each year), Summerfest, Juno Brewery, the Telluride Jazz Festival and private events. Directed by renowned trombonist, vocalist, percussionist, composer, and arranger César Bauvallet, who moved from Havana, Cuba to Albuquerque in 1992, Son Como Son comprises some of Albuquerque’s most accomplished musicians, including Janet Harman, bass; Mary Wommack, piano; Loren Lujan, vocals; Aileen Gonzalez, vocals; Victor Rodríguez, vocals and bongos; Tomas White, congas; Danilo Bauvallet, drums & timbale; John Simms, trumpet & vocals; and Kanoa Kaluhiwa, tenor sax.
