About this Event

Something Wicked (a reimagined Macbeth)

April 19-20 | 7:30pm | $15

The first production in AMOC's 2024 AiR Series, Something Wicked, a reimagined Macbeth is an in-process performance of one of Shakespeare’s most well-known works. Resident artist Sasha Maya Ada Davis aims to offer fresh takes on timeless classics by reimagining the process behind the final product. Davis’ residency has focused on refreshing the rehearsal process for theatrical productions, taking a patient and explorative approach to the creative process. This work has resulted in the development of her newly formed theater group, Altar’d Playhouse, “I want to give this company time to marinate on the world we create together,” Davis states. Join us to take a peek into the early stages of Something Wicked, then stick around for the post-performance discussion to learn more about the work behind the curtain!

This program is supported, in part, by the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture and Comerica Charitable Giving.

More about Artist-in-Residence, Sasha Maya Ada Davis

From South Cackalacky--also known as South Carolina, Sasha Maya Ada Davis made her theatrical debut at the age of 7 singing "Part of Your World" in the back seat of her mother's 2000 Mitsubishi as her grandfather got pulled over for speeding.

Now, a Dallas based director, actor, and educator. Her recent directing credits include Two Gentlemen of Verona (Associate Director- Shakespeare Dallas), Natural Shocks (Echo Theatre), Aida (Lyric Stage), Cabaret (Arts Mission Oak Cliff x Lost Boys Presents), Pass Over (Second Thought Theatre) and many more.

She coaches artists in preparation for their next steps and also serves as the co coordinator and lead teaching artist for the Dallas Region of the National Next Narrative Monologue Competition. The intersection of artistic technique and restorative practices is what guides her professional and personal approach to storytelling. She is also the founder of Altar'd Playhouse, a process-orientated theatre movement invested in the theatre making process and inspired by artistic growth. Each of these things fill her bucket.
