About this Event
If you are not a member of Makerspace, you will have limited access to the space to work on the seminar projects. Access will be made available thru the end of February, daily until 10pm so long as another member is present that day.
This expansive, six-part instructional class and workshop lab for beginners will teach you how to turn that desire to build something into a finished piece. Each student will choose a project to work on and we’ll provide tailored guidance for each. Keep in mind that larger projects take much more time than allotted in class.
Class 1: Measure Twice, Cut Once (1/7) - Measuring, layout, and marking; cutting, milling, and drilling.
Class 2: This To That (1/14) - Joinery, adhesives, fasteners, and how to choose from everything at your disposal.
Class 3: Just A Little Off The Top (1/21) - Sanding, planing, shaping, surface preparation, and fixing mistakes.
Class 4: Project Planning (1/28) - Putting It All Together: Research, technical design, finding drawings, making drawings/sketching, budgeting, materials, and hardware costs; time - prep time, shopping, build time, drying time, steps and linear time, multitasking, workflow, and shop hours.
Labs 5 & 6: Stepping Out (2/4 & 2/11) - Next steps: paint, sealers, oils, waxes, and other finishes; shop time to build projects.
Please note that the class fee does not include project materials. Attendees should plan to source the bulk of their materials. We can offer guidance on where to purchase and can help coordinate delivery.
Instructors: Ted Morgan, Chris Ivan, & Patrick McKendry
