Second Saturday Lecture: Some Thoughts About Brother Enoch: Conrad Weiser at the Ephrata Cloister
Saturday, March 14, 2026 • 10:00 AM
Join historian Kerry Mohn as he explores Berks County’s Conrad Weiser and his fascinating involvement with the Ephrata Cloister, one of Pennsylvania’s most unique religious communities.
Conrad Weiser (1696–1760) was a prominent Pennsylvania-German diplomat and interpreter who played a key role in relations between colonial settlers and Native American nations. The Ephrata Cloister, founded in 1732, was a religious and communal society known for its celibate lifestyle, distinctive architecture, and rich musical traditions.
In this lecture, Kerry Mohn will examine Weiser’s interactions with the Cloister and how his life intersected with this remarkable community, offering insights into the cultural, religious, and historical fabric of early Berks County.
