Do you have chronic pain in your shoulders, back or hips? Do you tend to stand with your low back more arched? Do your shoulders roll forward? Do you twist or lean to one side? Our sensory motor system responds to daily stress with specific muscular contractions and reflexes. When repeatedly triggered, we cannot voluntarily relax the muscles. They become so unconscious we forget how to move about freely.
We all have habitual patterns of moving and holding due to these reflexes which may be related to stress, injury, repetitive movement and/or trauma. Somatic Yoga (SomaYoga) is all about releasing those chronically tense and over-used muscles.
The Somatic movements you’ll learn in this clinic focus on neuromuscular re-education. Which means the release you experience will be longer lasting. This may result in less pain, improved sleep and breathing.
This class is suitable for all levels and abilities and is lead by a trauma informed Yoga Therapist. The movements shared are very gentle yet powerful! Most movements are done either lying down or in a chair.
What I hope you take away from the 2 day workshop:
- Develop a deeper understanding of your own habitual movements
- Learn the 3 reflexes as taught by Thomas Hanna (the type of Somatics we focus on)
- Address any imbalances with appropriate exercises (booklet of the practices provided)
- Understand movement and the Nervous System
- Learn the power of slowing down and paying attention
Lead by Yoga Therapist Samantha Sambrooke. She is a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP). For any Yoga Teachers registered with the Yoga Alliance, this weekend counts for 10 hours towards continuing education credits.
$200 + HST = $230 via e-transfer (message for email address)
