Somatic Sunday Session is intentionally created as a sacred container for kind souls to rest, connect, and be in community.
About this Event

Somatic Sunday is a restorative gathering intentionally designed for rest, connection, and community. Rooted in diasporic and ancestral wisdom, the experience invites participants to slow down and reconnect while engaging with evocative, healing-centered artwork. Produced in collaboration with Intelligent Mischief at their Futures of Repair social ddreamspace in Brooklyn, the environment is thoughtfully curated with designated areas for gentle decompression—offering a creative, immersive, and deeply grounding atmosphere. We begin in a collective circle to share pronouns and set intentions, cultivating an open-hearted and affirming container. Each session weaves together meditation, intuitive movement, and communal presence within an interactive, art-filled space—inviting participants to rest, restore, and remember themselves in community.

Briana Rose’s work is shaped by an intersectional lens rooted in her experience as a queer Black woman. She explores freestyle and somatic movement as pathways for releasing anger and grief, while attuning to the body’s language during moments of joy. Her practice weaves movement with music frequencies, meditation, and breathwork, offering a sanctuary for powerful healing modalities and compassionate space-holding.

Deeply connected to her ancestors and committed to land stewardship, Briana creates brave spaces for kind souls to reconnect with the earth they occupy. Her work highlights the importance of tending to the land, learning how to grow one’s own food, and remembering our reciprocal relationship with nature. As the world becomes increasingly entangled with technology, her practice invites a return to the body and the magic of being human through community care and embodied presence.

Star Mitchell (they/them) is a trans-disciplinary artist, choreographer, and curator. A native New Yorker of Colombian and African American descent walking in their creative audacity. Their work uses movement to deepen ancestral connection, re-imagine narratives around Black/Brown/Queer bodies, and offer radical approaches to healing.

Their works have been performed at BAX, The Shed, Judson Memorial Church, CPR, BAAD!, Princeton University, Abron’s Arts Center, and BAAD!. Star is a 2025 BAX Studio Grant Recipent, MODArts Collective Thread Resident, and Pioneers Go East NEXT! Mentee. A 2023 EMERGE NYC Alum, 2022 CPR Artist-in-Residence, and 2021 City Artist Corps Recipient.

Join us January 25th, 2026 from 6pm - 9pm for a Somatic Sunday Session to make space for grief and relief.
