About this Event
Solution-Focused (Brief) Therapy Training Aims and Expectations Solution-Focused (Brief) Therapy (SFBT) is a behaviour change approach that involves a collaboration between client and practitioner to develop practical and sustainable solutions.
As a highly practical approach, SFBT continues to grow in popularity and has broad applications across health, social care, education, criminal justice and beyond. This two-day training programme is delivered by Dr Charlotte Hilton, a psychologist with expertise in behaviour change, including SFBT and is also a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).
As the name suggests, the focus is very much on finding manageable solutions to change, rather than the problem itself, or things that may be contributing to maintaining problematic behaviours. The training is highly interactive, the content informed by the needs of trainees and benefits from a blend of learning materials including brief PowerPoint, group discussion and practice, video examples and plenty of humour!
The training is suitable for anyone supporting people to make important changes in their life although this training will have a particular focus on substance use. However, by the end of the training, trainees will have a good understanding of not only what SFBT is, but also how to do it and the contexts in which SFBT may be particularly helpful for supporting people through change. Those trained in other methods may also benefit from exploring how to blend SFBT with other complementary approaches such as trauma-informed, CBT and motivational interviewing (MI), for example.
