A crash course in creating solo character work for sketch.
About this Event

Workshop Description:
Dive into creating bold, funny, and playable solo characters for sketch comedy with guest teacher Liz Coin! Students will learn how to build fully realized characters from the inside out.
Through a mix of guided exercises, writing prompts, and on-your-feet performance, participants will develop original solo characters for sketch comedy, social media videos, and more. This workshop is inspired by a Groundlings style of teaching.
We’ll focus on heightening choices, finding the game of the character, and making strong edits so sketches stay focused and punchy. Emphasis is placed on clarity, specificity, and performing with confidence.
This workshop is ideal for improvisers, actors, and writers who want to expand their character toolbox, strengthen solo performance skills, or generate material for stage, audition, or video work.

Workshop Length: 2.5 hours

Prerequisite: Some performance experience required.

What Should I Bring? Comfy clothes for movement and a notebook to take notes. Please bring a full water bottle.

Please read our and before signing up for a class or workshop.

Instructors:
Liz Coin is a NYC-based actor, writer, and sketch comedian originally from Bettendorf, Iowa. Liz holds a BA from Northwestern University and is a proud Second City alum. As a professional silly goose, Liz has appeared on stages and screens around the country – notably, The Second City (Chicago), The PIT (BoogieManja Characters), Magnet Theater (Livewire Sketch Shows), and Broadway's Next Hit Musical US tour.

Liz believes that laughter is the best medicine and she’s ready to fill your prescription! Liz teaches improv in rehab centers (and beyond) with a special focus in bringing sunshine to those touched by addiction. With her unwavering welcoming energy, audiences feel like they’re all on the same team. You might cry, but you WILL laugh, and we'll do it together!
