SOLD OUT | Sensory-Friendly Family Day at City Museum

Step inside City Museum before the doors open to the public and experience a morning designed for a gentler place.
This private, sensory-friendly family event offers two hours of exploration in a quieter, more supportive environment, where families can climb, slide, wander, and play together without the typical packed crowd or sensory overload. The museum’s imaginative spaces remain just as magical, but the rhythm is softened, the volume lowered, and the experience shaped with care.
This event is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Southern Bank, whose support helps open the doors to inclusive and welcoming experiences for families across our community.
To support sensory needs, Easterseals Midwest works closely with City Museum staff to:
- Limit attendance
- Reduce or turn off exhibits with loud music, effects, or amplified voices
- Adjust lighting and activity flow when possible
While modifications are made wherever feasible, some ambient sound is unavoidable. Families and individuals with auditory sensitivities are strongly encouraged to bring noise-reduction or noise-canceling headphones. A calming space will also be available on the second floor.
Safety and accessibility notes:
- Adult supervision is required at all times.
- Families bringing more than one child should plan for one adult per child.
- This event is open to all ages.
- The fourth floor (MonstroCity), gift shops, and food/beverage stands will be closed during this time.
Registration is capped at 500 attendees to ensure a supportive environment for all.
PARKING:
Complimentary parking is available until 9:30 AM in the City Museum lot at 16th and Delmar (enclosed by the museum’s signature cement serpents). After 9:30 AM, parking is $15 per vehicle. Additional parking is available nearby.
Registration is now open. Spots fill quickly, so early registration is strongly recommended.
