Join us for a meaningful adventure on Sunday 19th October!
Meet us at the St Heliers Beach boat ramp at 8:30 AM for a free kayak tour and beach clean-up at the stunning Motukorea (Browns Island). Registrations are essential. Tour will run for approximately 4 hours.
🌊 What to Expect
Paddle across the Hauraki Gulf from St Heliers to Motukorea and take part in a beach clean-up supported by our amazing friends at Sea Cleaners. Together, we’ll help protect this beautiful marine environment by collecting rubbish while exploring one of Auckland’s best-preserved volcanic islands.
🏝️ Why Motukorea?
Accessible only by private boats and kayaks, Motukorea (‘island of the pied oystercatcher bird’) is a hidden gem with breathtaking views, a fascinating volcanic history, and an untouched natural environment.
✨ Special Opportunity for Duke of Edinburgh Participants
This beach clean-up tour qualifies as Voluntary Service for students completing their Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Awards. It’s a chance to give back, build confidence, develop communication skills, and make a positive impact on your community. Minimum age for attendance: 14 years old.
🐾 Help Keep Motukorea Pest-Free
As a pest-free island, it’s essential to protect Motukorea’s delicate ecosystem. Before joining the tour please:
Check your gear for pests like rodents and insects.
Clean footwear and equipment to remove soil and seeds.
Close bags securely to prevent pests from sneaking in.
💬 Important Details
This event is kindly funded by past guests who have contributed to Auckland Sea Kayaks’ Community Conservation Fund. While the experience is free of charge, a $50 NZD fee will apply for no-shows to ensure fairness to others wishing to take part. There will also be a waitlist for participants to ensure that if we have cancellations, the spots can be offered to additional guests.
Let’s paddle, protect the environment, and enjoy this incredible island together. 🌿 We can’t wait to see you there.
