About this Event
Prepare to enter a world where nothing is as it seems. In the halls of Solace House, time is shattered, sanity is compromised, and the borders of reality are disintergrated...
It's the summer of 1993, and Alex thinks he's hit the jackpot: it's the end of term and, broke and directionless, he's landed a job clearing out a property for the university. He and a group of other students are tasked with excavating a reclusive hoarder's house. As they dig through the piles of junk that litter the Victorian mansion, they come across a set of journals from the disturbed former resident, Edwin Flayne, that will turn the tide of the summer, and their lives. The obsessive scrawls about a vanished mother, a strange philosophy, and a world beyond our own may initially seem a clear cut case of madness, but Flayne's insanity begins to seem all too convincing as Solace House tightens its grip upon the group.
Perfect for fans of Shirley Jackson, The Secret History, and House of Leaves, Solace House tells a deftly woven tale of obsession, timeless love, and parallel worlds. We are delighted to be welcoming Will Maclean to Heffers on Thursday 25th June to take us on a tour through this truly uncategorisable novel.
