About this Event
Healthy soil is the foundation of every thriving garden and productive farm. This hands-on workshop explores the core principles of soil health and how working with the soil—rather than against it—can transform plant vitality, increase yields, and build long-term resilience.
Participants will learn how soil functions as a living ecosystem and how practices like keeping the soil covered, minimizing disturbance, increasing plant diversity, maintaining living roots, and supporting soil biology all work together to build fertility naturally. Whether you’re tending a backyard garden or managing acres of land, this workshop will connect the science of soil with practical, real-world techniques you can apply right away.
Come dig into the underground world that feeds your plants, stores water, sequesters carbon, and supports the entire food system. When soil health improves, everything above ground thrives.
Crops require different nutrients to thrive. This workshop will highlight the practice of crop rotation. At Village Family Farm, growers and gardeners will learn more about the importance of changing what you grow each season by location to restore nutrients in the soil.
**This event is outdoors on a working farm where you will be surrounded by nature. Ground and terrain may be uneven on the farm. We recommend comfortable shoes, sunscreen and a hat.**
This workshop will take place rain or shine. In cases of extreme weather, we will contact you 24-36 hours prior to the event if we need to cancel.
