About this Event
Adapted from Alessandro Baricco’s internationally celebrated novel Seta, this poetic one-woman show is written and performed by French actress Sylvie Dorliat, who brings the delicate story of love, longing, and distant journeys to life on stage.
During this special preview, Dorliat will discuss the process of transforming Baricco’s lyrical prose into a theatrical performance and share insights into her work as both actress and adaptor of the piece. The conversation will be moderated by David Miller, founder of Boston’s French Theater Project, who will guide an intimate exchange about literary adaptation, solo performance, and contemporary French theater.
This program offers a unique opportunity to meet the artist, learn about the creative process behind the production, and discover the story ahead of the Boston performances of Soie at the Mosesian Center for the Arts (May 1–3, 2026).
The conversation will take place in French and will be followed by a Q&A and a glass of wine.
This theater preview is open to all - Free for members of the French Library and students with valid ID and $10 for non-members.

About the Show – Soie
Written by Alessandro Baricco
Adapted and performed by Sylvie Dorliat
In the 1860s, Hervé Joncour undertakes four journeys to Japan to purchase silkworm eggs for the silk industry in southern France. In this distant and mysterious country, he encounters a beautiful woman whose presence profoundly changes his life.
Soie speaks of impossible love, sensuality, obsession, and what Baricco describes as “the happiness we flee for fear it might escape us.” Adapted from the cult novel Seta, the production is a delicate and sensual invitation to travel, dream, and fall in love with a story suspended between East and West.
