Korleis renner tida i Sogndalselva? Elva slynger seg gjennom elvesletta ho sjølv har skapt, og legg att spor av tider som var, då klima også var i endring og flaumar og tørketid sette sitt preg på dei som budde i dalen. Elva fortset si tusenårige vandring gjennom årstidene og menneska som bur her.

Vi inviterer til ei forteljande vandring langs Sogndalselva der ho får si historie fortalt frå blant andre geolog, lokalhistorikar og andre som kjenner området. Vandringa ender på Kulturhuset, der kunstnar Jonathon Keats inviterer deltakarane til å skrive sine eigne elvebiografiar som vil bli samla inn og stilt ut.
Elveforteljing er del av eit verdsomspennande initiativ om korleis naturen held tid, organisert av kunstneren Jonathon Keats. Med-kuratorer Anne Beate Hovind og Siri Veland (Norce) i samarbeid med Mari Hanssen Korsbrekke (Vestlandsforskning) og Håvard Ese Eliassen (Sogndal kommune).
Prosjektet er støtta av Koro - Art in Public Spaces, Sogndal kommune, Norce, og Vestlandsforskning.
Den første fasen av prosjektet var ei elveklokke bestilt og administrert av Anchorage Museum (Alaska, USA). I 2020 vart klokka presentert som en storskala projeksjon på museumsfasaden og finnes fortfarande som et nettstad. Keats jobbar for tiden med ein elvekalender som bruker fenomenet erosjon for å holde tida ved kjeldene til South River i Atlanta, Georgia (USA), eit verk bestilt og administrert av Flux Projects, som vart installert hausten 2025. Keats utviklar i tillegg ein monumental kommunal klokke for Wien, Østerrike, som skal kalibrerast av Donau. Donau-klokkeprosjektet, som for tiden er i forskningsfasen, er i samarbeid med Universitetet for naturressursar og biovitskap (BOKU) i Wien.
Initiativet om naturen si tidtaking tar også trær i bruk. Den første fasen var ein arboreal kalender som ble bestilt av Long Now Foundation og installert blant tusenårige bristlecones på Mt. Washington i austlege Nevada (USA) i 2024. Trea på Mt. Washington vil også kalibrere tida til ein monumental kommunal klokke, som vart installert i Nevada Museum of Art sommaren 2025.

How does the flow of time manifest on the Sogndal River? The river meanders along the bed it creates, leaving traces of times past, marking changes in the climate that recollect experiences of those who lived in the valley before. Every day, the river continues to journey through the seasons, carrying the people who live here toward the future.
We invite you to a narrative walk along the Sogndal River where its history is told by geologists, historians others who know the area. The walk ends at the Cultural Center, where artist Jonathon Keats invites participants to write their own river biographies – or autobiographies – that will be collected and shared.
The Calendar of the Meander is part of a global environmental timekeeping initiative organized by the artist Jonathon Keats. Co-Curators are Siri Veland and Anne Beate Hovind in collaboration with Mari Hanssen Korsbrekke (Vestlandsforskning), Håvard Ese Eliassen (Sogndal kommune).

The first phase of the project was a fluvial clock commissioned and administered by the Anchorage Museum (Alaska, USA). In 2020, the clock was presented as a large-scale projection on the museum facade and persists as a website. Keats is currently working on a site-specific fluvial calendar using the phenomenon of erosion to keep time on the headwaters of the South River in Atlanta, Georgia (USA), a work commissioned and administered by Flux Projects, to be installed in the autumn of 2025. Keats is additionally developing a monumental municipal clock for Vienna, Austria, to be calibrated by the Danube River. Currently in the research phase, the Danube clock project is in partnership with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna.
The environmental timekeeping initiative also enlists trees as timekeepers. The first phase was a site-specific arboreal calendar, which was commissioned by the Long Now Foundation and installed on Mt. Washington in eastern Nevada (USA) in 2024. The trees on Mt. Washington will also calibrate the timing of a monumental municipal clock, currently under construction, to be installed in the Nevada Museum of Art in the summer of 2025.
