Since their debut in 2023, Sofrito has emerged as the South Bay’s fresh take on Latin Jazz and a fan favorite at Summer Fest Club Crawls and The Hedley Club. Intricate, energetic rhythms with Afro-Cuban roots--including salsa, bembé, cha cha, and danzón–-drive the band’s engaging sound. Sofrito musicians have played the Great American Music Hall, opened for Celia Cruz, toured with merengue band Oro Sólido, and performed with Murray Low’s acclaimed Stanford Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble. Led by drummer/multi-percussionist Max Yoshimoto, the 8-piece band features veteran San Jose pianist Daniel Filip, a distinctive trombone/flute horn trio, and a complete Latin rhythm section. Sofrito’s show combines original tunes, inventive arrangements of classics, and works by contemporary Latin composers.
