Socrates in the City Presents: Socrates in the Studio Tapings with Ross Douthat & Dr. William Hurlbut (+ Host Eric Metaxas!)
About this Event

Join us for Socrates in the Studio on April 11th from 12pm-4pm at the House of the Redeemer, where we’ll be filming two thought-provoking interviews with renowned guests and SITC Host Eric Metaxas.

One ticket grants you access to both talks, filmed back-to-back in an intimate setting—these interviews won’t be live-streamed, offering you a rare chance to be part of an exclusive in-person experience.

At noon, bestselling author Ross Douthat will discuss his latest book, Believe: Why Everyone Should Be Religious, described as “a Mere Christianity for the 21st century” by World Magazine.

Ross Douthat has been a New York Times Opinion columnist since April 2009. Previously, he was a senior editor at the Atlantic. He is the author of The Deep Places; The Decadent Society; To Change the Church; Bad Religion; Privilege; and, with Reihan Salam, Grand New Party. He is the film critic for National Review. He lives with his wife and five children in New Haven, Connecticut. His latest book, Believe, released nationwide February 11, 2025 and was an instant New York Times bestseller.

Then, Dr. William Hurlbut will discuss “The Boundaries of Humanity: Humans, Animals, and Machines in the Age of Technology.”

William B. Hurlbut, M.D. is a Senior Research Scholar in the Dept. of Neurology and Neurological Sciences and an Adjunct Professor in the Dept. of Neurobiology at Stanford University Medical Center. His primary areas of interest involve the ethical issues associated with advancing biomedical technology, the biological basis of moral awareness, and studies in the integration of theology and philosophy of biology. In addition to teaching at Stanford, he has worked with NASA on projects in astrobiology and as a member of the Chemical and Biological Warfare working group at Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation. From 2002-2009 Dr. Hurlbut served on the President’s Council on Bioethics.
