Social Work & Politics - After the Inauguration

What is the role of the social worker in the new administration? Let's take a look at the first month and discuss what has been done, what is planned, and the impact of these policy decisions. What actions need to be taken? Social workers have a responsibility to broader society and this workshop will explore how we can be use our positions and expertise to best serve our clients and communities.Learning objectivesParticipants will be able to:

  • Discuss the policy changes made by the new administration
  • Discuss the impact of these changes on clients and communities
  • Discuss ways social workers can best support their clients and communities through advocacy

About the Presenter:

Stephen Pimpare, PhD is the new director of Vermont Law and Graduate School's Masters of Public Policy program. He is the author of four books, including A People's History of Poverty in America, which won the Michael Harrington Award from the American Political Science Association “for demonstrating how scholarship can be used in the struggle for a better world” and most recently, Politics for Social Workers: A Practical Guide to Effecting Change, which received the 2023 Best Book Award from the Society for Social Work and Research. Pimpare is host of the New Books Network’s Public Policy Channel and a Consulting Editor for the journal Social Work.
