The Double-Loop Learning Series convenes leading thinkers and practitioners who are reshaping how we approach problem-solving in complex social systems. Each seminar spotlights experts who share their research, lived experiences, and lessons learned from working alongside communities to design more equitable systems that foster human thriving.

This series is designed to spark dialogue, reflection, and shared learning across disciplines and sectors. Participants will gain valuable insights into innovative methods, practical challenges, and the evolving role of system dynamics in addressing today’s most pressing social issues.

We are thrilled to kick off the series with Ellis Ballard, Assistant Professor of Practice at the Brown School and former Director of the Social System Design Lab. Ellis is also a Founding Partner at , a strategic design partnership that collaborates with community organizations, health systems, and researchers to apply system dynamics modeling and human-centered design in service of social change.

In this session, Ellis will reflect on his decades-long practice and teaching with communities around the globe—sharing his expectations, the outcomes of his engagements, and key lessons learned along the way.

Dean Dorian Traube will also be present to thank Ellis for his years of service to the Brown School as the Director of the Social System Design Lab.
