About this Event

Roundtable will begin promptly at 6:30 - make sure to get here before then!

Join us for a roundtable discussion on a problem we're all too familiar with - social media addiction and its impact on our quality of life, the mental health crisis, and the political system.

Hosted by Present, the discussion will feature the experts in the space: young activists, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders who grew up with these technologies and face this problem every day.

We'll be discussing:

  • How tech companies engineer our constant engagement
  • The impact of addictive algorithms on the mental health crisis, our quality of life, and the political system
  • What is healthy phone use?
  • What can individuals, parents, companies, and society do to solve this problem?

A mixer will follow the roundtable, allowing us all to connect.

Anyone interested in Responsible Tech, the Mental Health Crisis (particularly youth mental health), developing a healthy relationship with technology, or the impact of social media on our society and political system should attend!

Featured Speakers:

  • Maddie Freeman: a student activist and entrepreneur, Maddie is the founder of NoSo November, a 1-month detox and educational program that encourages young people to learn about the impact that social media can have on our mental health and lives
  • Yoelle Gulko: a student activist, entrepreneur, and filmmaker, Yoelle is currently directing the film Our Subscription to Addiction focusing on her own struggle with phone addiction and highlighting the work done by fellow youth activists in the space
  • Jack Winston: after struggling with his own phone addiction and seeing almost all of his friends do the same, Jack founded Present, an NYC-based startup that motivates people to develop a healthier relationship with their phone through real-life rewards for practicing healthy phone habits

This event is a part of #TechWeek - a week of events hosted by VCs and startups to bring together the tech ecosystem.
