About this Event
Come to a Ranger-led walk at Trottick Ponds Local Nature Reserve and see what grows in nature that we can harvest.
The wildlife to be found here may surprise you. There are a variety of birds that make the reserve and surrounding areas their home, including a resident pair of swans, a heron, dippers and lots of other familiar garden favourites.
Roe deer can be seen in the field just north of the reserve, usually early in the morning. If you prefer to be out and about at dusk then you might see the bats as they perform their aerial acrobatics over the pond.
In the ponds themselves you should be able to see lots of frogs, toads and even a newt or two living alongside all the other bugs and beasties such as diving beetles and snails.
**Bring some paper bags to store the plants that you’ll be collecting and you can take it home to eat it later. You’ll need to be careful what you take from nature but the Ranger will give you tips on what to look for and how to make sure that it’s ok to eat.
The session will take place at Trottick at 1pm on March 27th, meeting at the signpost on Old Claverhouse Road. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and good footwear.
