Theresa Claiborne, the first African American woman to serve as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, will visit Carbondale on Thursday, March 26 at 6:00 p.m. She will participate in an evening conversation with Institute Director John Shaw about her groundbreaking military career, her path to becoming a pilot, and the lessons she has learned about leadership, perseverance, and breaking barriers in public service. The discussion will also explore the importance of expanding opportunity in aviation and the armed forces.A reception will be held before the event from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Corker Lounge outside of Ballroom B inside the SIU Student Center.
