SMOKESCREEN 2025 The Unexpected
Taking place at in the Drama Room at the WPCC, Smokescreen brings Dubbo residents the opportunity to witness iconic and influential films from the history of cinema.
The theme for 2024 'The Unexpected'.
Each film takes a familiar characterisation, scene or trope from the science fiction universe and diverts expectations. From ground breaking new ideas in portraying space and time, to film settings and cinematography that redefined how audiences experienced a genre that is often only thought of as ‘those Star films’.

METROPOLIS (1984)
Giorgio Moroder's special 1984 reconstruction of METROPOLIS, with color tinting, fewer inter-titles, and newly restored footage. A pioneer in the field of digital music, Moroder backed this special edition with a throbbing new score, punctuated with pop songs from some of the biggest stars of the early MTV era: Freddie Mercury, Pat Benatar, Adam Ant, Bonnie Tyler, Loverboy, and others.

DARK CITY (1998)
Dark City is a 1998 tech noir film primarily shot at Fox Studios Australia. Directed by Alex Proyas, it stars Rufus Sewell, William Hurt, Kiefer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly, Richard O'Brien, and Ian Richardson. Sewell plays a man who, finding himself suspected of murder, attempts to discover his true identity and clear his name while on the run from the police and a mysterious group known as the "Strangers".
