About this Event
The singing of Christmas carols likely dates back over a millennium. As early as the 1920s, jazz musicians drew inspiration from the holiday season and incorporated holiday songs into their repertoires. Their musical compositions and recordings have become an integral part of celebrating the holiday season worldwide. From "Angels Hymn" to "Mary's Boy Child," Bing Crosby to Kelly Clarkson, the Christmas spirit continues to be celebrated with music. Holiday jazz albums are some of the most widely recognized musical recordings—and some of the most frequently covered and performed jazz songs.
Come celebrate the holidays the big band way with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra in an afternoon concert of holiday favorites in jazz style and enjoy a special opportunity to browse historical objects out of storage and talk with museum experts.
