About this Event
Smart career moves with Darren Maw: from hospital porter to barrister to actor, celebrant, wine connoisseur and beyond…
The Career Evolution team welcomes Darren Maw for an evening of networking and career insights
There are no rules that say that once you have chosen your career path you have to stay on it, which is just as well, as Darren has successfully explored many different directions over his 30+ year career. Darren’s journey has been fascinating, and he has never hesitated to ask for help along the way, viewing an honesty about ‘not knowing’ as a superpower that has unlocked many doors.
Join us at the Garret Bar in Storyhouse on Wednesday 18 February 2026 to hear about his journey from leaving school at 17 with no qualifications and working as a hospital porter, to being a barrister in one of the leading Chambers in London 10 years later. Before moving on again to be the founding MD of a multi-million start up… oh and a professional actor on stage and in Corrie to boot!
Currently an owner of his second successful startup, he is again laying foundations for the next stage in life. Celebrancy, fine wine qualifications and a creative business telling real people’s stories are on the radar. For Darren, making great career choices comes from
“understanding one’s own underlying relationship to risk, seeing that ‘no change’ can be the highest risk option, and a commitment to always be learning something that I will thank myself for in five years’ time.”
