Established in the early 1990s by T3, Baatin, and the iconic J Dilla (also known as Jay Dee), the group quickly became a cornerstone in Detroit's hip-hop scene.J Dilla’s, enduring influence continued to shape the group, with his protégé and Grammy-nominated producer Young RJ stepping in as a rapper in 2009. T3 and Young RJ’s stewardship, Slum Village has continued to innovate, producing revered albums such as "Trinity" with the standout track "Tainted," and "Detroit Deli," featuring the popular single “Selfish” with Kanye West and John Legend.
T3 and Young RJ have been instrumental in preserving and expanding the group's legacy, leading to later albums like "Villa Manifesto" and "YES," which includes posthumous productions by Dilla. Today, Slum Village remains a celebrated name in the world of Detroit hip-hop. With over a decade of collaboration, T3 and Young RJ stay true to the group’s founding ethos while introducing new vitality and a contagious zest.
