If you don't currently have a GPS watch do not fret! The Strava app is free to download to your phone and you can use it to track your runs. Looking for a GPS watch? At SLRC you can buy one and our sales associates can help answer your questions.
What do you mean by "trail?"
Rolling singletrack is the holy grail of trail running, however, we know it's not always an option. Our requisites for a trail are as follows...
- Dirt, Gravel, rock, other natural surfaces (NOT asphalt i.e. paved river "trails" do not fulfill the requirement, sorry)
- Singletrack, 4x4 trails, or other dirt roads used more for recreation than transportation. Basically, if your uber driver would drive it, it's probably not an option.
How far does each run have to be?
The SLRC Altra Trail Challenge is awesome because it doesn't matter! Some days you might only have time to squeeze in a quick run, other times you might put that running vest to good use, escape reality, and run until you just can't anymore. We suggest you plan out in advance how many runs and how far each will need to be to reach your goals.
Does the entire run have to be on the trails?
The goal is to do all your miles on the trails. However, there are some situations we can understand.
- You're lucky enough to live close to a trailhead so you start your run from your home.
- You temporarily use a road to connect two trails.
General rule of thumb is that you can confidently say "I went on a trail run!" Or that your run should be about 90% on trails. If you have any questions about the validity of a run shoot us an email.
The challenge has already started, can I still signup?
Yes! Heck, if you're doing a 100 miler you only need one day... now that's crazy talk.
