Join us at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center Foundation's "Night at the Library: A Curious Event"!
This year, the Library and Learning Center Foundation is turning tradition on its head. Instead of auctions, bidding wars, and fund-a-need moments, they’re creating a night where you can engage, connect, and explore. They’ve removed the pressure to give during the event and invite you to spend your evening meeting your community, making new friends, learning something new, and sparking curiosity. If you believe in libraries—and in the Lafayette Library as a hub for human connection and lifelong learning, join us at Night at the Library: A Curious Event on April 24. A night of fun, food, and the joy of discovery. Come curious, leave inspired!
A key tenet of the Slow Food work is defending biodiverse food systems and educating consumers and producers alike about how important agricultural biodiversity is for sustainability and climate resilience, not to mention taste! Through the Ark of Taste, we catalog delicious and distinctive foods facing extinction, aiming to identify and champion these foods, keeping them in production and on our plates and through the Plant a Seed program we work to get these rare varietals into school and community gardens so that they can be enjoyed for generations to come.
Members from the Slow Food East Bay volunteer leadership team will be here to share the work of the Ark of Taste and the annual Plant A Seed program (and hand out seeds of these heirloom varietals!) Alongside Slow Food, Laura Gunderson, garden specialist at Burton Valley Elementary School and Jennifer Russell and Kimberly Overaa of the Lafayette Community Garden will share how they are exemplifying the Slow Food values in their gardens.
Come visit, grab some seeds, identify some greens and start to dream of your own growing adventures!
