Slow Down Accessible Nature Walk at Smithills - Ancient Woodlands (May)

Join us for a slow guided adventure, looking at the ancient woodland plants ourdoors then moving indoors to craft and connect.
About this Event

On the first Thursday of the each month, join our Woodland Trust staff led community walk. This May, we will be learning all about ancient woodlands and their special flora.

Accessible walks open to those who would benefit from connecting with nature and other people in a slow, mindful way. This includes people with disabilities, such as those with limited mobility and dementia, and their carers and loved ones. The walk takes place on a relatively flat nature trail suitable for most wheelchair and walker users.

Please email us in advance with access needs so we can ensure we prepare a session you can be fully involved in.

This walk will be cancelled if there is severe weather. Please check your emails on the day/morning before the walk and ensure you come in weather-appropriate gear.
No children under 18.
Dogs on leads are welcome.
This walk is approx. 45 minutes, ~1 miles, ~1.5km and is partly on footpaths and partly on uneven ground. It’s moderate with some slightly challenging parts. We plan our walks to be suitable for most mobility issues, please do reach out to let us know in advance so we can ensure you get the most out of the session.
Please bring water and refreshments for the journey if you need them. We will provide tea, coffee and biscuits during the craft.
Smithills Hall can have poor phone signal, please plan your route ahead of time.
Smithills Hall is accessed via a front door with ramped access.
Public toilets including an accessible unisex toilet are located on the ground floor.
Please make the Woodland Trust team aware of any medical issues before the start of the walk, e.g. asthma, diabetes, etc
Smithils Hall car park has several free spaces, inclduding diabled parking spaces.
Limited spaces are available for our events, if you can no longer make it, we appreciate you letting us know.
