Sketchbooks are a great place to play and experiment with drawings and ideas and are like a work of art themselves. They are even a work of art that you yourself can create! In this class, we will make our own sketchbooks, learning how to create portable sketchbooks which begin as a single large sheet of paper, and after folding, cutting, and folding again, will transform into a 16-page book. We will also learn how to glue and attach covers, as well as how to insert ribbon in between the book and the covers, so the sketchbook can tie shut.
Once the books are created, you’ll have the option of decorating the covers, working inside the sketchbook itself, or working on an illustration project on paper outside of the book, if you want to gift the book to someone else and keep it blank.
There will be demonstrations on using mixed media such as pencil, ink, and color pencil, in and out of the sketchbook, and a focus on warm colors like we see in leaves during the Fall.
