About this Event
This workshop aims to encourage you to paint anywhere, any time, and ways to capture the world around you. While you don’t need lots of experience to join this workshop it will be helpful to have an understanding of the basics - this could include just trying some things yourself to get a feel for how watercolour brushes work! If you feel very nervous though we do have a fundamentals watercolour workshop that will help you! This workshop is for people who want to paint things that look like things, or who want to feel more confident using that art journal that has been sitting on the shelf for a while …
This workshop will include a take home kit of:
- Artist quality watercolour pans (primary colours)
- Portable painting palette
- Mini sketchbook
- Clips
All materials will be provided in the session including high quality watercolour paper to experiment on - however, if you have paints you wish to use you are welcome to bring them along as well! You will leave this session with practical technique guides and, hopefully, the passion to get journaling! We recommend this session if you want to get better at painting figuratively - i.e. painting nature, landscapes, things, but also if you are needing help getting good results in your art journal which means abstract painting, or capturing textures as well!
The session will run for 3 hours with a short break for tea or coffee (provided on site cost inclusive). If you wish to bring a morning/afternoon tea snack please feel free to do so!
Workshop Outline:
- Types of watercolour journals and what is “Plein Air” painting
*but please note we will be indoors!
- How to use watercolour pans and a portable set up
- Underdrawings and underpaintings
- Mixed media layering
- Combining your drawing and painting skills to sketch!
- Protecting your finished work
In the future we may run some group come and paint sessions at the botanic gardens for those who have the supplies but want some guidance! So let us know if this is something you might want to hear about.
The Event Spaces
There are two event spaces at the Rundle Collective - the smaller space on Level 2 and the larger space on Level 3. We are usually using the larger space on Level 3 unless it is a private booking. Both are able to be made private by shutting the door to the main artist studios. We have accessible bathrooms on both levels. We can also access the kitchen on level 2 as needed.
Have any more questions? Feel free to reach out to Bianca at any time on 0459 946 479 or send us an email if you prefer to [email protected]. We accept direct bookings with bank transfer or cash paid on the day if you would prefer to avoid the site booking fees.
We do take private bookings with a one person minimum - please reach out to arrange a specific time/date. We can also talk about bigger groups as well if you would like!
