Bring your sketch kit and sketch stool out and join us at the Goodman Community Center, and nearby Community Gardens. NOTE: different timeslot (3-5PM) than we usually use, due to availability of the venue - Goodman Community Center welcomes us to sketch inside and out, including a chance to check out our own art display in the Ballweg Gallery, if you have not had a chance yet. We will have access to playground, plaza, exterior of Brassworks Building, and the exterior and limited interior (bathrooms and corridors) of the Ironworks building. The site provides sketching opportunities for historic industrial buildings, the imposing 300+ foot steel gantry, train tracks, historic signage, community gardens and our own gallery show.
We'll meet at the front doors on the parking lot side (not the Waubesa street side), and meet back there for the throwdown at 4:50. The community gardens are right across the way.
Some history about the GCC (Goodman Community Center) building:
Ironworks Building (149 Waubesa St)
Industrial Past: The site served as the American Shredder Company (1903-1906), Steinle Turret Machine Company (1906-1934), and Theodore Kupfer Iron Works (1940-1985).
Transformation: In 2008, the former iron works was transformed into the new home for the community center, which was previously located on Atwood Avenue.
Usage: The 48,600-square-foot facility now houses programs for kids, teens, and seniors, along with a fitness center.
