This workshop is for you.

As a writer who has had three novels published, and has self-published a poetry

anthology, Abda will give an insight into the world of publishing, covering the following

topics:

- An overview of the publishing industry

- Abda’s own journey to publication

- The difference between traditional publishing, self-publishing and hybrid

- Submitting your work to agents or small publishers

- Top tips: things you need to know before you make your decision

- Diversification: what else can publishing lead to

There will be a Q&A session a the end


Please arrive 15minutes before the workshop and ensure you have also booked to the festival.

The Session is held in the Carnegie room, in the library upstairs

You need to book and have a visible booking ticket, as the session has a reserved capacity

Abda Khan

Abda Khan is a lawyer turned writer. She is the author of the novels ‘Stained’ and

‘Razia’ and her poetry collection ‘Losing Battles Winning Wars’. Her third novel, ‘That

Which May Destroy You’, published on 8 March 2025, is a gripping courtroom thriller

exploring the issue of ‘gaslighting’. She writes commissioned pieces for various

publications, organisations and projects. She teaches creative writing, and produces

and directs her own creative community projects, which have included ‘Sidelines to

Centre Stage’ (sharing the stories of marginalised women), ‘Tappay Tales’ (creating

new work by taking inspiration from old Punjabi folk songs), and an oral history

project called ‘Aurat Kahani’ (featuring women’s stories of South Asian migration).

She is a Desi Blitz Arts Ambassador, a Lloyds Bank Women of the Future

Ambassador, and she won British Muslim Woman of the Year in 2019.
