About this Event
The Sista Nonprofit Network (SNN) is an online community for Black women who work in nonprofit and philanthropy that is a professional safe space for them to connect with other Black women in these sectors for relationship building and professional development. The Sista Summit is our annual virtual conference in which Black women gather to attend workshops engage in conversations and learn strategies for personal development aligned with the summit theme.
This year's theme is Black Girl Magic: Defining Success on our Own Terms. Recently, there has been a lot of data released and articles written about the experiences of Black women in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. Most of the articles and data have talked about the negative experiences that Black women experience in these sectors. Although the data and articles share a truth about our experiences in these sectors, it isn't the totality or end of the story for Black women. Also it isn't the experience of every Black woman that has worked in these sectors. It is important that we as Black women focus on ways that we can shift the narrative, share the totality of our experiences and/or discuss solutions so that we can have a better experience working in these sectors.
The summit will commence with a panel discussion, with theme of Purposeful and Paid: Navigating Your Career on Your Own Terms. In this discussion Black women in these sectors will discuss how they achieve success on their own terms and provide strategies fo how other women can do so as well.
The panel discussion will be followed by 3 concurrent professional development workshops on topics that are connected to the theme. The summit will end with a keynote speech that focuses on the summit theme.
